Privacy Policy

What this website collects: Google Analytics 4 page measurement (with a consent choice), no ad cookies, and an email address only if you ask for the re-score alert.

Tunnelgauge scores VPNs on how candid they are about data, so this page holds the site to the same bar. It explains, in plain terms, what this website does and does not collect — including the fact that we use Google Analytics. It was last reviewed on 2026-10-09.

What we collect

There are no accounts here, and the site asks you for nothing. Apart from the analytics described in the next section, the only personal data we hold is an email address you choose to give us: submit it to the re-score alert and we store it for the sole purpose of sending those updates, and you can unsubscribe from any email to have it deleted. We do not sell, rent or share your email with anyone.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd., to see which reviews and rankings actually get read. It records the pages you view, the site that referred you, your approximate location at city or country level, your device and browser type, and session timing. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have switched off advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation, so this data is not used for advertising, and we do not sell it.

GA4 sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years — and only after analytics is allowed. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a banner asks you first, and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept. Everywhere else, analytics is on by default and you can switch it off at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as an opt-out. Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent, not in a cookie. We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

To revisit your decision, change your analytics choice and the banner reopens. Google explains its side in its privacy policy, and its opt-out browser add-on blocks Google Analytics on every site, not just this one.

When you click an affiliate link — always routed through a /go/ address and labelled as such — the provider may set its own cookie to attribute a later purchase to us. That is the provider's cookie under the provider's policy, not ours, and it earns us a commission only if you buy. See our affiliate disclosure for how that works and which providers pay us nothing.

Your rights and contact

You can ask us what email data we hold about you and have it deleted at any time by writing to [email protected]. Because we collect so little, most such requests are simple to honour.
